HOW TO SURVIVE THIS
REMODELING PROJECT
Remodeling can be very stressful and
may seem like the project will never be finished. There is hope and
with a few tips to keep in mind before and during the construction
process you will keep your stress level down to a
minimum.
Plan in advance where all the
cabinets, flooring and appliances will be stored before the
installers begin their work. Usually the garage is the best place
which keeps all the items out of your way until construction has
started.
Before any tear out starts you will
need to pack everything in the kitchen or bath. If
you label all the boxes you will know where all the
items are when it is time to put it all back in your new
kitchen or bath. Please remove the
boxes from the construction area.
You need to set up a temporary
kitchen area with a microwave, coffee pot, toaster, and refrigerator
in a room where it will be easily accessible during the remodeling.
Other things that will be needed are a water source for doing
dishes, paper plates and plastic utensils, soap, coffee filters, can
openers, microwave dishes, paper towels, garbage bags, cups, salt
& pepper and any other spices for your cooking. A
good grill out side will be very handy for cooking.
Food sources are pre-frozen homemade
meals, store bought frozen meals, delivery service meals or there is
always the restaurants. ( Look for coupons )
Cover the furniture with plastic
for dust protection, take items down off the walls in and
adjacent to the construction area. Items will get knocked down while
moving the cabinets or during the tear out. Always be on the safe
side.
Don't forget your pets; their food,
water and safety is important. We will be going in and out the doors
many times and we don't want to be chasing your pets down the
street.
Remember this is a project that will
take more than a few days to complete and there will be dust and
noise. The contractors and installers will be as accommodating as
possible to bring the project to a successful conclusion. The length
of the project will be determined by the amount of work to be done
and the type of materials used. There are times that you may not see
any workers at your job site but we are still progressing to the
completion. We may be waiting on inspections, or for glue to dry
under tile or for counter tops to be installed after they were
measured.
